Which Plaster Surface is Right for You

Which Plaster Surface is Right for You

Traditional Plaster:

Made from White Cement, pool sand (crushed marble) modifiers and water. Traditional plaster has a smooth white surface and with the sky above gives the water a light blue appearance. The average life of Traditional Plaster is 7-12 years, properly maintained many people get 15 + years of life out of their traditional pool surface. It is the most economical finish but, is "susceptible" to staining and discoloration as a result of water chemistry and time.

Quartz Plaster:

Made from white cement, pool sand (crushed marble), quartz, modifiers and water. Heritage uses 6 bags of Quartz per batch. Colored Quartz plaster gives the surface a speckled appearance. The most popular color is a white background with Blue Quartz, this surface resembles a "Certs breath mint". Quartz Plaster is stronger and longer lasting, the average life of a quartz pool is 10-15 years. Properly maintained many customers get 20 + years of life out of their Quartz Finish.

Colored Plaster or Colored Plaster With Quartz:

The above finishes can both have dye/pigment color added at a fraction of the cost of pebble. Colored plaster shows shade and color variation and is susceptible to color fading and extreme variation based on water chemistry and maintenance. Colored plaster should only be chosen by customers with pool service company familiar with care and maintenance of this surface, or a highly dedicated homeowner. Life span is like above.

Pebble (Stonescapes. Exposed Aggregates:

Pebble finishes are made from white cement, natural stone, dye/pigment (depending on colors), modifiers, and water. The pebble is applied, and the surface is washed to expose the pebble./ Pebble can produce a wide array of surface and watercolors. While not as smooth as Traditional Plaster or Quartz the surface water floors are well worth the tradeoff. The life span of pebble surfaces seems to be 20 + years. Pebble is the most resilient surface and the color can often be brought back with an acid wash.

Jewelscapes/glass Beads:

Finishes are made from white cement, glass beads, dye pigment (depending on color), modifiers, and water. Glass bead pools are similar in application to pebble surfaces and have a wide array of color selections. The additional benefit of glass beads is the light refraction within the glass, when the water is running creates dramatic water effects. Since glass is nonporous water chemistry is critical, aggressive water chemistry can erode the cement and cause glass beads to pop out of the mix.

Add Ons:

Abalone shell or small amount of glass beads can be added to traditional plaster, colored plaster, and pebble finishes. Abalone shells will sparkle when hit by sunlight. Glass bead refract light with the pump running. Both options are priced per unit.
